Designed & Tested for safety, recognition, & effectiveness

Subjected to SFMTA testing, the StrongGo Tactile Warning Delineators set a new standard for separated bicycle lanes at sidewalk level. Individuals of varying abilities, from blind to bicyclists, compared the Tactile Warning Delineators to other available options.

Committed to community action to improve city infrastructure and safety, TekWay worked directly with SFMTA in its Quick-Build program in January 2020 to make Market Street in San Francisco safer and offer more reliable transit. Together, a new type of detectable warning tile was developed, extensively user tested, and refined. Immediate improvements were installed relatively quickly, including the addition of bicycle intersection improvements.

Our Tactile Warning Delineators were tested and performed best in terms of:

Ease of Access

A major concern with delineators is how they affect all pedestrians and cyclists. The Tactile Warning Delineators shape keeps the tiles from becoming a tripping hazard and allows wheels to roll over them as needed. Additionally, our unique slip resistant materials and precise tooling helped ensure that participants did not slip on the incline.

Detectability

Visually impaired study participants tested numerous types of detectable warnings, and our Tactile Warning Delineators were best in both visual and tactile detection. Cane Intrusions were limited, with the tactile warning delineator shape and height providing the best barrier to canes entering bike lanes as well as recognition of the barrier.

Distinction from other Detectable Warnings Surface Tiles

With all the different types of detectable warning tiles out there, it was imperative that those with low to no vision were able to distinguish the delineator from wayfinding bars, dome tiles, and other detectable warnings, as well as react to the implied barrier that they represent.

California building code:
11b-705.2 Detectable Directional Texture

This code describes the shape and texture used for directional detectable warnings. Reusing directional bars, or warnings similar in appearance and feel, does not comply with the CBC and does a disservice to the low- and no-vision pedestrians who rely on this type of guidance for safety.

Cyclist WARNING RUMBLERS

Tactile Warning Delineators

Cyclist Warning Rumblers offer an effective way to enhance the safety of people who bike and walk while also reducing crashes.

Our Rumblers provide a visible and tactile warning to bicyclists to slow their speed coming up to an intersection, for both their safety and that of pedestrians. It won’t matter if they are wearing headphones, looking at their phone, or just not paying attention—they will feel the warnings and look up and take stock of their surroundings. Conversely, the tires riding over the strips creates a distinct noise that will warn pedestrians of incoming traffic.

Urban Tactile Warning Systems

Trapezoid Delineators

The optimal solution for separating sidewalk-level bicycle and pedestrian pathways in dense urban areas like  universities and city centers. They are intended to be used in areas such as city centers, parks, and universities or any locations where the two paths would be adjacent on the same level. Those with no or low vision are able to physically detect the Delineator Tiles and avoid crossing them while bicyclists can safely see and feel the boundary between the pedestrian and bicycle path.

Cyclist Warning Rumblers

When pedestrians and bicyclists meet in congested cities or university intersections, their different speeds and momentums create a potential safety hazard for everyone involved. Cyclist Warning Rumblers offer an effective way to enhance the safety of people who bike and walk while also reducing crashes. As cyclists approach a pedestrian crossing or intersection, they will run over these rumblers, giving them a simple tactile warning to slow down and be aware of pedestrians or cars—similar to speed bumps for cars.

StrongGo Industries Slider

Sidewalks & Curb Ramp ADA Systems

Durable and reliable over the lifetime of the project, our sidewalk and curb ramp systems can be manufactured to achieve the specific needs of your walkways while achieving a greater accessible city.

Mass Transit ADA Systems

Bus, rail, and streetcar platforms are all unique unto themselves. To safeguard the wide range of transportation environments, we make a full line of straight or bull-nose dome tiles, pre-warning strips, and Tactile Direction Indicators and Navigational tiles.

True Radius ADA Systems & Architectural Series

We can create any specialty tile. Our Architectural Series works within the guidelines of local municipalities and ADA requirements to give you everything from True Radius Tiles to Brick Patterns--all with a range of Federal & Natural colors, and all ADA compliant.

Tactile Warning Delineators (TWDs)

The boundary between cyclists and pedestrians becomes more clear with delineator tiles. Tactile Warning Delineators (TWDs) provide a detectable change in slope on pedestrian access routes, indicating to people that they are transitioning from one space to another.

ADA Surface Applied Metal for Existing Infrastructure

Not all Tactile Warning Systems can be installed using Wet-Set; sometimes, they need to be Surface-Applied or thin-set. Our ADA Surface Applied Metal Tiles were designed for this; giving you the durability and quality of TekWay with the convenience of Surface Applied tiles.
